Birds
This past summer (2025)I decided to get back into photography. I fell out of love with it after a successful but emotionally draining career. I sold all of my equipment and was done with that chapter. Twenty years later, I'm dipping my toe slowly back into the waters by photographing my other loves, flowers and birds.
Most of these bird photos were taken in Lincoln Park, Jersey City and my own backyard garden. I designed the garden to attract birds with native NJ plants.

Hummingbird in my backyard.

The Common Grackle (not so common!) on my birdbath.

A bad photo of a Blue Headed Vireo. In Lincoln Park west on the Big Day! A new lifer for me.

This is either a Willow Flycatcher or an Eastern Peewee. I'll have to ask Lorraine!

White Throated Sparrow, in the phone pole mess next door.

Northern Mockingbird. King of the backyard, atop neighbors chimney.

Male Downy Woodpecker. The year-round star of my garden.

House Finches = drama queens!

Black and White Warbler, in LPW

Another White Throated Sparrow with a sunflower seed.

Happy little Song Sparrow. LPW.

Nashville Warbler took a trip to the spa before leaving

He is so cute! I had just gotten home from a fruitless photo trip to the park, and here is this gorgeous guy in my own backyard.

Great Blue Heron in our Nature vs Industry JC park.

I just want a good photo of a Tufted Titmouse..But all i got was this guy through a fence with a big bee n his mouth.

Yellow Rumped Warbler having a deep thoughts moment

My buddy Peanut, taking a nap. I've never seen a napping squirrel before. I'm happy he feels so safe in my garden sanctuary.

Since we're in a brief non-bird section of the website, lets look at this amazing deer that walked right up to Alex amd I at Liberty State Park. I think she could sense we were gentle animal lovers.

Here she is again. So amazing.

Cedar Waxwing! One of my favorites. They are like a Cardinal's bad ass stylish cousin.
Also super-hero-esque with that mask. In Liberty State Park.

A juvenile Cedar Waxwing in Liberty State Park.

Rare for this area, a Hermit Thrush enjoying a berry!
Looks just like the Swainsons Thrush.

I saw another when i got home from the park, right in my garden! Another rare Hermit Thrush.

This action shot of him hopping into the dirt off the barrel cracked me up. Lil torpedo. Hermit Thrush.

A nice shot of a basic ass Robin. They were my dad's favorite bird. Back in the day, seeing a Robin was the first sign of spring. Now the earth is cooked and we see them almost year round.

A female Red Wing Blackbird. They look NOTHING like the male! She was looking photogenic in the waters of Liberty State Park.

A very autumnal looking Catbird. This berry tree is very popular with all the good birds! I'll be sure to plant one when I own a house one day.

A Swamp Sparrow! Sparrows aren't exactly my favorite because they all look alike, but I do like a few! The ones that have a dash of yellow are cute. I will still try to photograph every kind! So far I have Song Sparrow, White Throated Sparrow, House Sparrow, I think that's it.. but i will collect 'em all like Pokemon.
